the social world is still in the process of becoming, while science only objectively ascertains that which exists. Therefore, science as yet has nothing to do with religion; religion, like morality, is only a product of social life.
If science confirms the Jewish idea of unity, this still happens only in such a way that, on the one hand, it abandons the heathen, anti-genetic idea of the eternity of matter or its atoms, and on the other hand, strips the idea of unity itself of all its anthropomorphic, human, i.e., subjective, and actually religious forms, which adhere to it as an original racial creation, and of which, as an essentially social, humane product, it can and may never completely divest itself if it wishes to act back upon social, humane life. — Only after the complete development of humane, social life can these forms, too, be recognized by science, and their justification also be acknowledged by it.

226 die ſoziale Welt, noch im Werden begnffen ist, die Wiſſenschaft aber nur das Daſeiende objektiv constatirt. Darum hat die Wiſſenschaft noch nichts mit der Religion zu schaffen; die Religion ist, wie die Moral, nur ein Produkt des ſozialen Lebens. Wenn die Wiſſenschaft die jüdische Einheitsidee bestätigt, ſo geschieht dieſes doch nur in der Weiſe, daß ſie einerſeits die heidnische, antigeneſische Idee von der Ewigkeit der Matene oder ihrer Atome fallen läßt, andrerſeits die Einheitsidee ſelbst von allen ihren anthropomorphistischen, menschlichen, d. h. ſubjektiven, eigentlich religiöſen Formen entkleidet, welche ihr als ursprünglicher Rachenschöpfung ankleben, und deren ſie ſich auch als weſentlich ſoziales, humanes Produkt nie ganz entäußem kann und darf, wenn ſie auf das ſoziale, humane Leben zurückwirken will. — Erst nach vollendeter Entwicklung des humanen, ſozialen Lebens können auch dieſe Formen von der Wiſſenschaft erkannt, kann ihre Berechtigung auch von ihr anerkannt werden.
