At the boundary that leads from the organic natural life of the prehistoric human races to the social life of the world-historical ones, the former, according to our Genesis, are doomed to perish with the hitherto misunderstood words:
לא ירוח רוחי באדם לעלם בשגם הוא בשר
“My spirit will not abide in man forever, for he is flesh.”*) What comes into being is worthy of perishing. —
Nothing persists eternally in existence, neither the atom, nor the celestial body, neither the original organic germ from which whole generations develop, nor the highest being on Earth, man, “because he is flesh,” and must constantly rejuvenate himself through death and rebirth, must go “the way of all flesh.”
All peoples had their sagas about the last catastrophe of the organic sphere of life. But only our genetic worldview had from the very beginning cast this deep glance into the essence of creation, comprehended Being as Becoming, which contains within itself the opposition of life and death, and whose truth and reality is the eternal birth and rebirth. —
*) More recent exegetes consider the words ירוח and בשגם to be corruptions of ילין and בעבור.

**Note VII.** An der Grenze, die vom organischen Naturleben der vorgeschichtlichen Menschenracen zum ſocialen Leben der weltgeschichtlichen hinüber führt, werden die Erstem, nach unſrer Geneſis, dem Untergange geweiht mit den bisher unverstandenen Worten: לא ירוח רוחי באדם לעלם בשגם הוא בשר „Mein Geist wird nicht ewig weilen im Menschen, weil er Fleisch ist.“*) Was entsteht, ist werth, daß es zu Grunde geht. — Nichts beharrt ewig im Daſein, weder das Atom, noch der Weltkörper, weder der ursprüngliche organische Keim, aus welchem ganze Geschlechter ſich entwickeln, noch das höchste Weſen der Erde, der Mensch, „weil er Fleisch“ ist, und ſich durch Tod und Wiedergeburt stets verjüngen, den „Weg alles Fleisches“ gehen muß. Alle Völker hatten ihre Sagen über die letzte Katastrophe der organischen Lebenssphäre. Aber nur unſre genetische Weltanschauung hatte von vom herein dieſen tiefen Blick in das Weſen der Schöpfung geworfen, das Sein als das Werden begnffen, welches den Gegenſatz von Leben und Tod in ſich enthält, und deſſen Wahrheit und Wirklichkeit die ewige Geburt und Wiedergeburt ist. — *) Neuere Eregeten halten die Worte ירוח und בשגם für Corruptele von ילין und בעבור.
