Just as only the perfected human organism of the world-historical races harmoniously unites the forces of nature, so the endeavors of history only come to harmonious cooperation in the perfected human society. Just as the Sabbath of Nature began only after the completion of the organic sphere of life, after the creation of man, so the Sabbath of History can only begin after the completion of social life, after the creation of a harmonious social organization, in which production and consumption are in equilibrium. — We stand on the eve of this Sabbath of History. But it has not yet dawned. Our age is that of Speculation. Speculation, by its nature, can only be the inheritance of a minority. What is the essence of Speculation?
Every sphere of life whose development is complete produces its life by way of reproduction, on the basis of the equilibrium of production and consumption. The social sphere of life also enters this age of maturity from the moment insight into the socio-economic movement is gained. Where this insight is not yet the common property of all, but is already the inheritance of individuals who use this insight for private purposes, there the Age of Speculation begins. This consists precisely in the exploitation of the reproductive movement of social life for private life.

175 Wie nur der vollendete menschliche Organismus der welthistonschen Racen die Kräfte der Natur harmonisch vereinigt, so kommen die Bestrebungen der Geschichte nur in der vollendeten menschlichen Gesellschaft zum harmonischen Zusammenwirken. Wie erst nach der Vollendung der organischen Lebenssphäre, nach der Schöpfung des Menschen, der Natursabbath begann, so kann der Geschichtssabbath erst beginnen nach der Vollendung des sozialen Lebens, nach der Schöpfung einer harmonischen sozialen Organisation, in welcher Produktion und Consumtion sich das Gleichgewicht halten. — Wir stehen am Vorabend dieses Geschichtssabbaths. Noch aber ist er nicht angebrochen. Unser Zeitalter ist das der Spekulation. Die Spekulation kann ihrer Natur nach nur das Erbtheil einer Minontät sein. Was ist das Wesen der Spekulation? Jede Lebenssphäre, deren Entwickelung vollendet ist, producirt ihr Leben auf dem Wege der Reproduktion, auf Grund des Gleichgewichts von Produktion und Consumtion. Auch die soziale Lebenssphäre tntt in dieses Zeitalter der Reise ein von dem Augenblicke an, wo die Einsicht in die sozial - ökonomische Bewegung gewonnen ist. Wo diese Einsicht noch nicht Gemeingut Aller, wohl aber schon das Erbtheil Einzelner ist, welche diese Einsicht zu Pnvatzwecken verwenden, da beginnt das Zeitalter der Spekulation. Diese besteht eben in der Ausbeutung der reproduktiven Bewegung des sozialen Lebens für das Pnvatleben.
