From the oppressed industrial and scientific producers of the previous century have come the speculating masters of the present. Within the productive classes themselves, a radical process of separation has taken place. The last revolution, in the midst of which we find ourselves, could not create a complete organization from the outset. The old, rigid institutions of feudal society and the last dead remnants of dogmatism first had to be consumed by the fire of revolution, had to be dissected into their elements and atoms by the sharp knife of criticism and analysis, before new social and spiritual creations could form. During the development of the new elements, a new antagonism came to light which did not previously exist, and whose reconciliation is the issue today.
— The power of labor and research, freed from the shackles of dogmatism and feudal society, brought forth the final antagonism, that between labor and speculation. In the heated revolutionary atmosphere of free competition among all labor forces, new centers of gravity formed, like buds in the warm spring air, which absorbed the isolated productive forces and organized them for their own purposes. Following the general law of gravitation, which is the law of all life, the atomistic workers grouped themselves around industrial centers, the isolated researchers around speculative systems, by which they are dominated and set in motion

Innerhalb der produktiven Klaſſen ſelbst ist ein durchgreifender Scheidungsprozeß von ſich gegangen. Die letzte Revolution, in deren Mitte wir uns befinden, konnte nicht von vom herein eine vollendete Institurtionen der feudalen Geſellschaft und die letzten todten Reste des Dogmatismus mußten erst vom Feuer der Revolution verzehrt, vom scharfen Meſſer der Kntik und Analyſe in ihre Elemente und Atome zerlegt werden, bevor neue ſoziale und geistige Schöpfungen ſich herausbilden konnten. Während der Entwicklung der neuen Elemente kam ein neuer Antagonismus zum Vorschein, der früher nicht existirte, und um deſſen Verſöhnung es ſich heute handelt. — Die von den Schranken des Dogmatismus und der feudalen Geſellschaft befreite Arbeits- und Forscherkraft brachte den letzten Antagonismus, jenen von Arbeit und Spekulation hervor. In der heißen revolutionären Atmosphäire der freien Concurrenz aller Arbeitskräfte bildeten ſich, wie Knospen in der warmen Frühlingsluft, neue Schwerpunkte, welche die vereinzelten Produktivkräfte abſorbirten und zu ihren Zwecken organiſirten. Dem allgemeinen Geſetze der Gravitation folgend, welches das Geſetz alles Lebens ist, gruppirten ſich die atomistischen Arbeiter um industnelle Centren, die vereinzelten Forscher um spekulative Systeme, von welchen ſie beherrscht und in Bewegung geſetzt 12*
