But far from being an exception to the eternal law which prevails in the cosmic and organic world, they instead allow this general law to emerge again quite clearly in the social human world, and also to recognize here the Holy One of Israel as the creative essence of all life. Only through the religious genius of the Jews and its revelations is an uninterrupted, unified, holy, historical development provided, which, like that of cosmic and organic natural life, is in itself the definitive proof of divine providence in nature and history. The revelations of the spirit, by which the Jews are inspired, encompass not only world history, but the history of the world, the genesis of cosmic, organic, and social life; they ascertain in all that has become and all that will be, the eternal law of God, today on a scientific basis, as formerly on the basis of the mere testimony of the imagination and the soul.
The direct influences of the Creator in every creative process in nature, as in the world of the spirit, cannot be denied. It is of no use, in order to deny the Creator, to trace back from the descendants to the ancestors and, in the final instance, to so-called matter; for even entire generations, indeed, entire natural kingdoms have newly arisen at one time. 162 Aber weit entfemt, eine Ausnahme von dem ewigen Geseze zu ſein, welches in der koſmischen und organischen Welt waltet, laſſen ſie vielmehr dieſes allgemeine Gesez in der ſozialen Menschenwelt wieder recht deutlich zu Tage treten, und auch hier den heiligen Israels, als das schöpfensche Weſen alles Lebens erkennen. Erst durch das religiöſe Genie der Juden und ſeine Offenbarungen ist eine ununterbrochene, einheitliche, heilige, geschichtliche Entwicklung gegeben, welche, wie die des koſmischen und organischen Naturlebens, an ſich ſelbst der endgültige Beweis für das göttliche Walten in Natur und Geschichte ist. Die Offenbarungen des Geistes, von welchem die Juden beſeelt ſind, umfaſſen nicht nur die Weltgeschichte, ſondem die Geschichte der Welt, die Geneſis des koſmischen, organischen und ſozialen Lebens; ſie constatiren in Allem, was geworden ist und was wird, das ewige Gesez Gottes, heute auf wiſſenschaftlicher Grundlage, wie ehedem auf Grund des bloßen Zeugniſſes der Phantaſie und des Gemüthes. Unmittelbare Einwirkungen des Schöpfers find bei jedem schöpfenschen Vorgange in der Natur, wie in der Welt des Geistes, nicht zu leugnen. Es hilft zu nichts, wenn wir, um den Schöpfer zu leugnen, von den Nachkommen auf die Vorfahren und in letzter Instanz auf die ſogenannte Matene zurück gehen; denn auch ganze Geschlechter, ja ganze Naturreiche ſind ein Mal neu entstanden.
