Christian source, Judas's betrayal would have served only to identify Jesus to the bailiffs and the accompanying crowd in the midst of his disciples, which he did with a kiss of homage, as if the one who was supposed to have entered Jerusalem in triumph and preached publicly in the temple would have been unknown to all! As soon as the bailiffs had seized him, all the disciples left him and sought their safety in flight; only Simon Peter followed him from afar. When day broke on the 14th of Nissan, on the Passover festival, i.e., on the day of preparation before the Feast of Unleavened Bread, Jesus was brought before the Sanhedrin. It seems that it was not the great Sanhedrin, but the small court of twenty-three members that tried him, since the president was not the Synhedrial president from the house of Hillel, but the High Priest Joseph Caiaphas who presided. The hearing consisted of the court wanting to ascertain whether Jesus claimed to be the Son of God, as the witnesses had testified. It sounds quite unbelievable that he should have been put on trial for this, because he had previously announced: He could destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days. Such a statement, if really uttered by him, could not have been the subject of an indictment. The charge was rather blasphemy (Gidduf βλασφημία), whether Jesus wanted to be recognized as the Son of God*).
Passages in the cited Mishnah Sanhedrin are to be assumed as borrowed from the trial of Jesus. The named Mishnah and the Boraita thereto are likely the only authentic sources in the Talmud about Jesus.
*) Matt. 26, 63. It is very striking that the Gospels state that false witnesses came forward against Jesus (Matthew ibid. 26, 54-60 and parallel passages), while they themselves state that he really did say and repeat that of which the witnesses accused him.

*) Matth. 63.
