d) "An agricultural school should be established to practically train Jewish boys and young men for Palestinian agriculture. This school, in which other sciences and arts that do not oppose the sublime purpose of our religion can also be taught, could be founded in Palestine, or also abroad, but in any case only in a country which (like e.g. France) produces wine and oil, the fruits of the holy land, so that the pupils can be practically trained for the specific cultivation that is native to Palestine.”
“God will then assist us with His grace, and we will, even if starting small, gradually acquire more and more property in the holy land, as the prophet has prophesied. But on our part, the beginning must be made, for which I have brought the proofs from the Talmud and Midrash.”

Was I not right, when I praised to you the sound, practical sense of our people and made the assertion that the pious Jews will extend their hand to the enlightened ones on the common ground of our nationality? —
From another quarter it is reported that in December of last year a large meeting was held in Australia, in which Jewish and Christian notables submitted very similar resolutions, as those proposed by our Frenchmen and our Jewish scholar, to a large assembly, which adopted these resolutions.*)

119 d) „Eine landwirthschaftliche Schule ſollte ernchtet werden, um jüdische Knaben und Jünglinge für den palästinenſischen Ackerbau praktisch zu erziehen. Dieſe Schule, in welcher auch andre Wiſſenschaften und Künste gelehrt werden können, die dem erhabenen Zwecke unſrer Religion nicht entgegen stehen, könnte in Palästina, oder auch im Auslande, jedenfalls aber nur in einem ſolchen Lande gegründet werden, welches (wie z. B. Frankreich) Wein und Oel, die Früchte des heiligen Landes hervorbnngt, damit die Zöglinge für die spezielle Cultur, die in Palästina heimisch ist, praktisch ausgebildet werden können.“ „Gott wird uns alsdann mit ſeiner Gnade beistehen und wir werden, wenn auch klein anfangend, nach und nach immer mehr Beſitz im heiligen Lande erwerben, wie der Prophet geweiſſagt hat. Von unſrer Seite aber muß der Anfang gemacht werden, wie ich dafür die Beweiſe gebracht habe aus dem Talmud und Midrasch.“ So weit R. Kalischer aus Thom. hatte ich Recht, wenn ich Ihnen den geſunden, praktischen Sinn unſres Volkes rühmte und die Behauptung aufstellte, daß die frommen Juden den aufgeklärten die Hand reichen werden auf dem gemeinſamen Boden unſrer Nationalität? — Von einer andem Seite wird benchtet, daß im Dezember vongen Jahres in Australien ein großes Meeting abgehalten wurde, in welchem jüdische und chnstliche Notabilitäten ganz ähnliche Beschlüſſe, wie die von Seiten unſrer Franzoſen und unſres jüdischen Gelehrten vorgeschlagenen, einer großen Verſammlung unterbreitet haben, welche dieſe Beschlüſſe angenommen hat.*) Alſo nicht nur Juden der verschiedensten Länder und Bildungsstufen, auch die verschiedenen chnstlichen Confeſſionen und *) Note X.
