"Au revoir" is not a farewell — France belongs wholly to those she loves, As the future belongs to God.
Alexander Weill sang at this time:
France, dear friend, France is the hero and savior who lifts our people back onto the tracks of world history.
Allow me to recall to your memory a legend that you may know:
A knight, who went to the Orient to liberate Jerusalem, left a friend behind in his country. While the former went into battle, the latter remained absorbed in his Talmudic studies; for the knight's friend was none other than a pious Rabbi.
One night, the returned knight entered the study of his friend, who was still engrossed in his Talmud, and spoke:
"God greet you, old friend! I come from the Holy Land and bring you from there a token of our friendship. What I fight for with the sword, you strive for with the spirit that animates you. Our paths lead together in the end."
With these words, the knight presented the Rabbi with a Rose of Jericho.
