Preface to the Eleventh Edition.
The experiences I have had with this work, which from A to Z only took the standpoint of resignation and for the future had nothing but at its conclusion a — very ironically phrased — call to a defensive struggle against the Judaization of the world, — these experiences lead me to come to a literary conclusion with “The Victory of Judaism.” Israel and the press dependent on it tried this time as well, for as long as it was at all possible, to kill it with silence. Where this press was questioned about it by its own readers, it printed notes in the letters section, which spoke of a pamphlet that had “fallen into the water,” whose review was not worth the trouble, etc. The rapidly successive editions were not only ignored, but with truly Semitic shamelessness they went so far as to note that Mr. M. Reymond, who in his work “Where is Mauschel Hiding” had only criticized my pessimism, had already destroyed me. Only the conservative press, without sharing my standpoint, was honest enough to take note of the new phase of the Jewish Question. The Jewish press pocketed the money my publisher spent on advertisements and remained editorially silent about that which it was paid to praise in its classifieds. (Needless to say, this did not prevent this cleanest of scribbling flocks from later holding it against me as a crime that I had my work “sold”!)
In the public, my “pessimistic trumpet blast,” as the “Victory” was called, had blown the sleep from the German Michel’s eyes, and when Mr. Pennhart published his pamphlet “The German Jews and Mr. W. Marr” (Löbau) and — the first to do so — objectively took to the duel, and when I answered this open opponent in my polemic “From the Jewish Theater of War” (Bern, Costenoble), the ice of killing with silence was bro-
