bristling with filth—worse than one finds it today in Russia and Poland—was able to spread across Europe, which was mocked by the educated of that time, mistreated by the mob, persecuted by clerical zealotry, —this people, as "brokers" in the Middle Ages, already made the great tributary to them and, through the intelligence and elasticity of its realistic haggling spirit, exploited the small, while retaining the entire theocratic-Jeho- vahnical rigidity with which it fanatically persecuted its own, humanely thinking exceptional Jews. And this people has conquered the world with its Jewish spirit!
That is not the power of the Jewish religious faith. For the Jew has no ideal religion; he has only a business contract with Jehovah and pays his God in statutes and formulas, who in return explicitly imposed on him the pleasant duty of annihilating everything non-Jewish. It is the immense power of a fully conscious, typical Realism that we are forced to marvel at in Judaism, which confronts us everywhere in its pathos as in its satire. For as far as the factuality of business and commercial matters is concerned, we Teutons hardly differ from the Jews anymore; we only lack the initiative power of the Semitic people, and since, by virtue of our tribal organization, we will never be able to acquire this power, so—because a standstill in cultural history is impossible—our prospect is none other than a time in which Judaism becomes a feudal lordship by state and by law, and we Teutons will form its "vassals."

— 20 — Schmutz starrend, — schlimmer als man es heute in Ruß- land und Polen antnfft, — sich über Europa verbreiten konnte, das von der Bildung der damaligen Zeit gehänsſelt, vom Pöbel gemisshandelt, vom kirchlichen Zelotismus ver- folgt wurde, — dieſes Volk machte ſich als «Makler» im Mittelalter bereits die Großen tnbutär und ſog durch die Intelligenz und Elastizität ſeines realistischen Schachergeistes die Kleinen aus, behielt dabei die ganze theokratische-jeho- vahnische Starrheit bei, welches ſeine eigenen, human den- kenden Ausnahmejuden fanatisch verfolgte. Und dieſes Volk hat mit ſeinem jüdischen Geiste die Welt er- obert! Das ist nicht die Macht des jüdischen religiöſen Glaubens. Denn der Jude hat keine ideale Religion; er hat nur einen Geschäftsvertrag mit Jehovah und zahlt in Sazungen und Formeln ſeinem Gott, der ihm dafür aus- drücklich die angenehme Pflicht auferlegte, alles Nicht- jüdische zu vertilgen. Es ist die gewaltige Macht eines vollbewussten, typischen **Realismus**, den wir im Judenthum anzustaunen gezwungen ſind, der uns in ſeinem Pathos wie in ſeiner Satyre überall entgegentntt. Denn was die Thatſächlichkeit geschäftlicher, erwerblicher Momente anbetnfft, ſo unterscheiden wir Germanen uns kaum mehr noch von den Juden; es fehlt uns nur noch die Initiative Kraft des ſemitischen Volkes, und da wir vermöge unſerer Stammesorganiſation uns dieſe Kraft nie werden ernngen können, ſo ist — weil ein Stillstand in der Kulturge- schichte unmöglich, — unſere Perspektive keine andere, als eine Zeit, in welcher staatlich und geſetzlich das Judenthum zur Feudalherrschaft wird, und wir Germa- nen ſeine «Hönge» bilden werden.
