the filth of certain pietistic sects are capable of against Christianity. I therefore unconditionally take the Jews under my protection against any "religious" persecution, and I believe it is in this regard hardly possible to express oneself more clearly than I have done here. On the other hand, I emphasize the following irrefutably established fact: In the Jews, a tribe was forced upon the Occident by the Romans, a tribe which, according to its own hi- story, was most thoroughly hated by all peoples of the Orient. —

Gegen jede «religiöse» Verfolgung nehme ich somit die Juden unbedingt in Schuß und ich glaube, es ist in dieser Hinsicht kaum möglich, sich deutlicher auszusprechen, als ich es hier gethan habe.
