35 “In India on this side of the Ganges they are black, in England blue-eyed and blond-haired, in the western governorates of Russia they have broad faces and Slavic noses: always corresponding to the physical characteristics of the population surrounding them.
“According to the results of the German school survey, purely blond types are found among the Baden Jews at 10.32 percent, the Bavarian at 10.38 percent, the Prussian at 11.23 percent, the Hessian at 11.77 percent, the Brunswick at 13.53 percent. These are undoubtedly products of foreign admixture. Among the Polish Jews, the foreign component is even more significant than among the German ones. Thus, for example, in Galicia the blond type among the Jews amounts to 14.1 percent. We arrive at the same result with regard to the frequency of the short-headed type among them.
“The West Russian and Polish Jews often have broad faces and noses, light hair and gray eyes, in a word, all the characteristics that indicate that the Jews are to a high degree imbued with the blood that flows in the neighboring native population: and if one were to adhere to the statistics of the cranial breadth index, it proves that the aforementioned Jews possess more Polish or West Russian racial characteristics than original Hebrew ones.”
As grounds for proof, various historical facts are cited, in addition to the results of anthropological research. According to the opinion of a whole number of researchers, a mixture of the Jews with the native population is thus noticeable in almost all countries, which took place by means of mixed marriages on the one hand and conversions to Judaism on the other.
Khazarism and Karaism were the most obvious proofs for the above assertion. There were so many mixed marriages at that time that the clergy was forced to put a stop to this urge through various related prohibitions issued at the councils of Elvira, Chalcedon, Orleans, Toledo, and Rome.

35 „In Indien diesseits des Ganges sind sie schwarz, in England blauäugig und blondhaang, in den westlichen Gouver- nements Rußlands haben sie breite Gesichter und slawische Nasen: immer entsprechend den physischen Merkmalen der sie umgebenden Bevölkerung. „Nach den Ergebnissen der deutschen Schulenquete befinden sich rein blonde Typen unter den Badener Juden 10·32 Pro- zent, den bayenschen 10·38 Prozent, den preußischen 11·23 Prozent, den hessischen 11·77 Prozent, den Braunschweiger 13·53 Prozent. Das sind unbedingt Erzeugnisse fremder Bei- mischung. Bei den polnischen Juden ist der fremde Bestandteil noch bedeutender als bei den deutschen. So beträgt z. B. in Galizien der blonde Typus unter den Juden 14·1 Prozent. Zum selben Ergebnisse gelangen wir in Bezug auf die Häufigkeit des kurzköpfigen Typus unter ihnen. „Die westrussischen und polnischen Juden haben oft breite Gesichter und Nasen, helle Haare und graue Augen, mit einem Worte alle Kennzeichen, die dafür sprechen, daß die Juden in hohem Grade vom Blute, welches in der benachbarten ein- geborenen Bevölkerung fließt, imbibiert sind: und sollte man sich an die Statistik des Schädelbreitenindex halten, so erweist sich, daß die angeführten Juden mehr polnische oder west- russische Rassenmerkmale besitzen als urhebräische.“ Als Beweisgründe werden, neben den Resultaten anthro- pologischer Forschungen, verschiedene histonsche Thatsachen an- geführt. Nach der Meinung einer ganzen Anzahl von Forschem ist also beinahe in allen Ländem eine Mischung der Juden mit der eingeborenen Bevölkerung bemerkbar, die mittels der Misch- ehen einerseits und der Bekehrung der Juden anderseits vor sich ging. Das Chazarentum, das Karäertum waren die augenschein- lichsten Beweise für die obige Behauptung. Der Mischehen gab es zu jener Zeit so viele, daß die Geistlichkeit gezwungen war, diesem Drange durch verschiedene diesbezügliche auf den Kon- zilien von Elvir, Chalcedon, Orleans, Toledo, Rom erlassene Verbote Einhalt zu tun.
