For these people show "a beautiful, strong, and well-proportioned build, large, straight-set eyes, strong, straight or only slightly curved noses, narrow lips and — what is most important — pronounced long heads." The last-mentioned characteristic is all the more striking as the heads are clean-shaven. This elongated shape of the skull, in addition to the protruding nose, the straight eyes and non-prominent cheekbones, exclude the Mongolian race with certainty. — — — — "Now," concludes Wilser, who vindicates these Sumerians as Proto-Germanics, "the further question could arise as to whether we are not dealing with Proto-Semites. But also speaking against this assumption are the only slightly curved, pointed noses and the non-fleshy lips. In addition, they differ from the later Semitic Assyrians in language, in their shaven heads, and in the absence of circumcision."
We know today that all the cultural fame of the modern and also of the classical periods, indeed even of the Egyptian and Indian epochs, is quite vanishingly small in comparison to that pinnacle of human capability which the Sumero-Akkadians, the inhabitants of Mesopotamia, had already achieved in 4000 and 5000 B.C. as the very first instigators of culture for the entire human race. From this viewpoint, we can easily understand the effort that Wilser devoted to proving the Germanic nature of these Sumerians.
Also with Woltmann, the since-deceased leader of this anthropological school, it is stated: "Today there can no longer be any doubt that the tall, blond, fair-skinned Nordic race has everywhere laid the foundation for that level of culture which is described as a high civilization. To be sure, the Mediterranean and Mongolian races also possess a not inconsiderable capacity for culture and it would be a one-sided exaggeration if one were to deny this fact. Dieſe Menschen zeigen nämlich „einen schönen, kräftigen und ebenmäßigen Wuchs, große, gerade stehende Augen, kräftige, gerade oder nur leicht gebogene Naſen, schmale Lippen und — was das Wichtigste ist — ausgesprochene Langköpfe“. Das letztgenannte Merkmal ist umſo augenfälliger, als die Köpfe glatt geschoren ſind. Dieſe längliche Gestalt des Schädels, dazu die vorspnngende Naſe, die geraden Augen und nicht vorstehenden Jochbeine schließen die mongolische Raſſe mit Sicherheit aus. — — — — „Es könnte nun“, folgert Wilſer, der dieſe Sumerer als Proto-Germanen vindiziert, „weiter die Frage entstehen, ob wir es nicht mit Urſemiten zu thun haben. Aber auch gegen dieſe Annahme sprechen die nur leicht gebogenen spitzen Naſen und die nicht aufgeworfenen Lippen. Außerdem unter- scheiden ſie ſich von den späteren ſemitischen Aſſyrem durch die Sprache, durch die geschorenen Köpfe, durch das Fehlen der Beschneidung.“ Wir wiſſen heute, daß aller Kulturruhm der modemen und auch der klaſſischen Penode, ja ſelbst der ägyptischen und der indischen Epoche ganz verschwindend klein ist im Vergleich zu jenem Gipfelpunkt menschlicher Leistungsfähigkeit, den schon 4000 und 5000 v. Chr. die Sumero-Akkader, die Bewohner Meſopotamiens, als die ersten Kulturerreger des ganzen Men- schengeschlechts überhaupt, erreicht haben. Von dieſem Ge- ſichtspunkte aus können wir unschwer die Mühe begreifen, die Wilſer darauf verwendet, das Germanentum dieſer Sumener zu beweiſen. Auch bei Woltmann, dem inzwischen verstorbenen Führer dieſer anthropologischen Schule, heißt es: „Heute kann kein Zweifel mehr darüber ſein, daß die großgewachſene, blonde, hellhäutige Nordlandraſſe überall das Fundament zu derjenigen Kulturhöhe gelegt hat, die man als Vollkultur bezeichnet. Gewiß beſitzt auch die mittelländische und mongolische Raſſe eine nicht gennge Kulturfähigkeit und es wäre einſeitige Übertreibung, wenn man dieſe Tatſache leug- nen wollte.
