446 and Romania through legal regulation, gradually native Christians are taking the place of the great and small Jews. As soon as the peasant population was once brought into world commerce by the Jews, the Jewish small trader is replaced by Christian competitors or by producer cooperatives and consumer associations. The Jewish intermediary trade dissolves on its own. But also the Christian large capital of the nobility, the clergy, etc., once the terrain has been tried out by the Jews, becomes bold and turns its monies, until now placed in savings banks and annuities, to industry and banking. This capital, which — although much less agile — is immensely superior in mass to the Jew- ish, is already anonymously invested in the stock corporations and banks and is becoming a dangerous opponent of the Jewish haute finance.
Even the large banks are ceasing to be run by Jews; neither wholesale trade, nor banking, neither industry nor retail trade are today still to the same degree the domain of Jewry as they were two decades ago; the upward class movement has turned into its opposite; in a cultural respect it still exists, in that even the poorest among the Jew- ish peddlers strives to have his talented sons study — but the consequence of this is only an army of intellectual proletarians.
In Austria, Russia, and Romania, a party whose program is Jew-hatred also prevails. But in the views of all the rest of the world, the principles of this party have also taken root. The contempt for the Jewish people intended and also actually achieved by it is based on its asserted inferiority, its alleged immorality, but primarily on the alleged economic exploitation of others and on its economic dominance. The people did not consider that through the Jews new sources of income were always opened, new goods were always brought into circulation; they stuck to their assertion that the Jews lived as parasites on what was created by the labor of Christians. Sobald die Bauembevölkerung von den Juden einmal in den Weltverkehr gebracht wurde, wird der jüdische Kleinhändler erſetzt durch chnstliche Konkurrenten oder durch Produktiv- genoſſenschaften und Konſumvereine. Der jüdische Zwischen- handel löst ſich von ſelber auf. Aber auch das chnstliche Groß- kapital des Adels, des Klerus usw. wird, sobald einmal das Terrain von den Juden ausprobiert ist, kühn und wendet ſeine bis jetzt in den Sparkaſſen und im Rentenbeſitz gelegenen Gel- der der Industne und dem Bankbetneb zu. Dieſes Kapital, welches — wenn auch viel weniger agil — an Maſſe dem jüdi- schen ungemein überlegen ist, steckt schon jetzt anonym in den Aktiengeſellschaften und Banken und wird zu einem gefähr- lichen Gegner der jüdischen haute finance. Sogar die großen Banken hören auf, von Juden geleitet zu werden; weder der Großhandel, noch das Bankweſen, weder die Industne noch der Kramhandel ſind heute noch in demſelben Maße die Domäne des Judentums, als ſie es vor zwei Jahr- zehnten noch geweſen ſind; die aufsteigende Klaſſenbewegung hat in ihr Gegenteil umgeschlagen; in kultureller Beziehung besteht ſie zwar noch, indem auch der ärmste unter den jüdi- schen Hausierem trachtet, ſeine begabten Söhne studieren zu laſſen — die Folge davon aber ist nur ein Heer von Intelligenz- proletanem. In Österreich, Rußland und Rumänien herrscht zudem eine Partei, deren Programm der Judenhaß ist. Doch auch in den An- schauungen aller übngen Welt haben die Grundſätze dieſer Partei Wurzel gefaßt. Die von ihr intendierte und auch tat- ſächlich erreichte Verachtung des jüdischen Volkes gründet ſich auf die von ihr behauptete Infenontät, ihre angebliche Sitten- loſigkeit, aber in erster Linie auf die angebliche wirthschaftliche Ausbeutung der Aner und auf ihre ökonomische Vorherrschaft. Das Volk bedachte nicht, daß durch die Juden immer neue Erwerbsquellen erschloſſen, immer neue Güter in Umlauf ge- bracht wurden, es blieb bei ſeiner Behauptung, die Juden leb- ten als Paraſiten von dem, was durch die Arbeit der Chnsten geschaffen wurde.
