Section 3 The Annihilation of the Cultural Value of the Jews through their Dissociation While the two preceding investigations into the cultural value of the Jewish race have focused on determining, on the basis of past achievements, what possibilities are present in the Jewish race, in the following section we will have to move from this merely potential cultural value to the real cultural value of the immediate present and future; we will have to see which of these possibilities, and if any, are also realizable. In and of itself, a discussion of the foundations of the Jewish racial question includes not only the discussion of the value of the race, but just as much that of its physical fates, insofar as these are conditioned by factors of higher, more fundamental significance. Of such factors, which as mass phenomena influence or seek to influence the spiritual and physical fates of the Jews, there are a whole series. The most important of them would be: The peculiar nature of the economic life and the economic conditions of the Jews, political and social anti-Semitism, the dissolution of ghetto culture, the decline of religiosity, the conscious or unconscious-automatic assimilation of the Jews to the national cultures surrounding them, the cosmopolitanism that works towards the leveling of all peculiarities, but above all the Diaspora itself; these phenomena are opposed within Jewry itself, on the one hand, by conservative aspirations in the traditional

Abschnitt Die Vemichtung des Kulturwertes der Juden durch ihre Dissoziation Haben ſich die beiden vorhergehenden Unterſuchungen über den Kulturwert der jüdischen Raſſe darauf erstreckt, auf Grund der biſhengen Leistungen festzustellen, welche Möglich- keiten in der jüdischen Raſſe vorhanden ſind, ſo werden wir in dem nun folgenden Abschnitte von dieſem bloß poten- tiellen Kulturwert auf den realen Kulturwert der unmittel- baren Gegenwart und Zukunft übergehen müſſen; wir werden ſehen müſſen, welche und ob welche von dieſen Möglichkeiten auch realiſierbar ſind. Schon an und für ſich gehört in eine Erörterung der Grundlagen der jüdischen Raſſenfrage nicht nur die Diskuſſion über den Wert der Raſſe, ſondem ebenſo die über ihre phyſischen Schickſale, ſoweit dieſelben durch Faktoren höherer pnnzipieller Bedeutung bedingt ſind. Solcher Faktoren, die als Maſſenerscheinungen auf die geistigen und phyſischen Schickſale der Juden Einfluß nehmen oder Einfluß zu nehmen trachten, gibt es eine ganze Reihe. Die wichtigsten davon wären: Die Sonderart des Erwerbslebens und der ökonomischen Verhältniſſe der Juden, der politische und der geſellschaftliche Antisemitismus, die Diſſolution der Ghettokultur, das Schwin- den der Religiöſität, die bewußte oder unbewußt-automatische Aſſimilation der Juden an die ſie umgebenden nationalen Kulturen, der auf die Nivellierung aller Beſonderheiten hin- arbeitende Kosmopolitismus, vor allem aber die Diaspora ſelbst; dieſen Erscheinungen gegenüber stehen innerhalb der Judenheit ſelbst einerſeits konſervative Bestrebungen im traditionellen
