Section 2 The Value of the Jews for the Intellectual Culture of Humanity The image of the "parasitism of the Jews" is a favorite term in the jargon of political anti-Semitism, whose spiritual father is Eugen Dühring.
Dühring is known to be the one who turned anti-Semitism from a mood into a science. His theories are now, if not universally recognized, then at least universally dominant. Therefore, the study of the scientific foundations of the Jewish people's problem cannot ignore him, despite his more than rude tone. He was the one who transformed anti-Semitism from the stage of a latent mood to that of an acute party movement and elevated it to the level of an, admittedly imaginary, scientificity.
The polemics of these malicious, tendentious writings and the anti-Semitic daily press draw attention to problems for which history still owes us an answer.
Questions arise that go far beyond the significance of this defamatory literature. — Are the Jews really nothing other than exploiters, arrogant insolents, and corrupters of morals? Do they really have all power in their hands, or are they seeking to get it in their hands to achieve the much- discussed world domination? Are they really behind everything evil and bad that happens? Are Judaism and corruption really synonymous? Do they really possess sole economic dominion and are they ruining the nations?

2. Abschnitt Der Wert der Juden für die geistige Kultur der Menschheit Das Bild vom „Paraſitentum der Juden“ ist ein Lieblings- terminus im Jargon des politischen Antisemitismus, desſen geistiger Vater Eugen Dühnng ist. Dühnng ist bekanntlich derjenige, der den Antisemitismus aus einer Stimmung zu einer Wiſſenschaft gemacht hat. Seine Theonen ſind jetzt, wenn auch nicht allgemein anerkannt, ſo doch allgemein herrschend. Daher darf das Studium der wiſſen- schaftlichen Grundlagen des jüdischen Volksproblems an ihm trotz des mehr als rüden Tons nicht ignonerend vorübergehen. Er war derjenige, der den Antisemitismus aus dem Stadium der latenten Stimmung in das der akuten Parteibewegung überführt und auf das Niveau einer, allerdings imaginären, Wiſſenschaft- lichkeit erhoben hat. Die Polemik dieſer hämischen Tendenzschnften und der antiſemitischen Tagespreſſe lenkt die Aufmerkſamkeit auf Pro- bleme, für welche uns die Geschichte die Antwort noch schuldet. Es entstehen Fragen, die weit über die Bedeutung dieſer Schmutzliteratur hinausgehen. — Sind die Juden wirklich nichts anderes als Ausſauger, arrogante Frechlinge und Sitten- verderber? Haben ſie wirklich alle Macht in Händen, oder ſuchen ſie dieſelbe in die Hand zu bekommen, um die viel be- sprochene Weltherrschaft zu erlangen? Stecken wirklich überall ſie dahinter, wo etwas Übles und Böſes geschieht? Sind Juden- tum und Korruption wirklich gleichbedeutend?
