XXVII poverishment, a development that even bears the character of a sociologically founded regularity, a development repeating itself at all times and in all places, which we formulated on page 368 and page 432 ff. as the “law of dispossession.” Sombart himself points out with regard to Germany that even here the Jews make themselves superfluous through the very instruments they created, that through the development of the modern lending system, the Jews who created it are made unnecessary, and that the very latest era of capi- talism already shows a decrease in Jewish in- fluence. It is an open secret that in Germany, too, the Jews have been completely pushed out of many commercial sectors, such as the chemical industry, and that with the transformation of financial institutions into banking insti- tutes, with the reshaping of capitalist enterprises into bureaucratic administrations, with the replacement of commercialism with bureaucra- tism, a certain pushing back of the Jewish element goes hand in hand. And this while Germany is now at the peak of a period of economic prosperity. The decline of even the House of Rothschild, which for half a century exercised sole dominion over the securities exchange, is more than typical of this process unfolding before our eyes. Maxima of capital ownership as well as of intelligence will still fight for their due role, because they are simply irreplaceable: the replaceable average values, however, will be almost automatically substituted by “Aryans.” A process that is just barely perceptible here in the West, but in the East speaks with almost the most brutal figures that world history has ever known. If one adds to this that the Jewish people, like any other, is comparable in its social stratification to a pyramid whose top, tapering upwards, is here, contrary to conditions elsewhere, constantly chipped away by baptism and mixed marriage (see p. 489) and that thus apostasy and connubium of the upper classes are tantamount to a revindication of Jewish capital on so lar-

XXVII Armung besteht, eine Entwicklung, die sogar den Charakter einer soziologisch begründeten Gesetzmäßigkeit an sich trägt, eine sich zu allen Zeiten und allerorts wiederholende Entwick- lung, die wir auf Seite 368 und Seite 432 ff. als das „Gesetz der Depossedierung“ formulierten. Sombart weist ja bezüglich Deutschlands selbst darauf hin, daß sogar hier die Juden durch die von ihnen geschaffenen Instrumente sich selbst über- flüssig machen, daß durch die Entwicklung des modemen Anleſheweſens die Juden, welche dasselbe geschaffen haben, un- nötig gemacht werden und daß die allemeueste Ära des Kapi- talismus schon eine Vernngerung des jüdischen Ein- flusses aufweise. Es ist ein offenes Geheimnis, daß die Juden auch in Deutschland aus manchen kommerziellen Zweigen, wie z. B. aus der chemischen Industne ganz hinausgedrängt wurden, und daß mit der Umwandlung von Finanzinstituten in Bankinsti- tute, mit der Umbildung von kapitalistischen Untemehmungen in bureaukratische Verwaltungen, mit der Ersetzung des Kommerzialismus durch den Bureaukratis- mus eine gewisse Zurückdrängung des jüdischen Elementes Hand in Hand geht. Und dabei steht Deutschland jetzt auf dem Gipfel einer wirtschaftlichen Prospentätspenode. Die Zurückdrängung sogar des Hauses Rothschild, das ein halbes Jahrhundert lang die Alleinherrschaft an der Fondbörse ausgeübt hat, ist mehr als typisch für diesen vor unseren Augen sich abspielenden Prozeß. Maxima an Kapitalbesitz sowohl wie an Intelligenz werden sich dabei zwar immer noch die ge- bührende Rolle erkämpfen, weil sie eben unersetzbar sind: die ersetzbaren Durchschnittswerte aber werden fast automatisch durch „Aner“ substituiert. Ein Prozeß, der hier im Westen eben gerade wahmehmbar ist, im Osten aber fast mit den brutalsten Ziffem spncht, die die Weltgeschichte über- haupt kennt. Fügt man dem noch hinzu, daß das jüdische wie jedes andere Volk seiner sozialen Schichtung nach mit einer Pyramide vergleichbar ist, deren sich nach oben verjüngende Spitze hier entgegen den Verhältnissen anderwärts fort und fort durch Taufe und Mischehe abbröckelt (siehe S. 489) und daß so Apostasie und Commubium der oberen Klassen gleichbedeutend sind mit einer Revindikation des jüdischen Kapitals in so gro-
