called banks into existence, engaged in the money business and export; it was they, for the most part, who founded the first great shipping companies and railways.
Throughout the entire Middle Ages and the modern era, every new and higher stage of the economy, at least for the German interior, began through the Jews. And then the national merchant class, after having forcibly displaced the Jews, stepped into their shoes.
Today we stand again, as mentioned above, at the beginning of a historical stage in which the Jews are being dispossessed of their professional positions. The immense proletarian masses of such Jews made jobless, partly homeless, partly long-established, speak an eloquent language.
Nevertheless, the Jew is called a "parasite" . . . !
But the matter is such that the Jew, through the introduction of trade and industry, has founded the prosperity of almost all Central European countries; but that, once prosperity has come to the country, he must make way for the native and seek new earning opportunities for himself — the classic example of the terrible and eternal Sisyphean labor, which is ineffective for the good of his own people.
In complete contrast to the still more favorable situation of the Jews in the West stands the stark misery of the Jews in the Orient and in Eastern Europe, where the "process of expropriation and dispossession" has progressed several phases further, almost to its desperate end.
The desperation in Russia, the misery in Galicia, the persecution in Romania led to a colossal Jewish migration to England, Canada, Australia, South Africa, Argentina, Palestine, but especially to the United States, a migration which finds no equal. From July 1, 1906, to June 30, 1907, from Russia alone and just to the United States, 114,934 Jews emigrated!
But now even in America numerous measures are being taken to restrict immigration, and 52

Das ganze Mittelalter und die Neuzeit hindurch begann jede neue und höhere Wirthschaftsstufe, zumindest für das deutsche Binnenland, durch die Juden. Und dann trat der nationale Kaufmannsstand, nachdem er die Juden mit Gewalt verdrängt hatte, in ihre Stapfen. Wir stehen heute wieder, wie oben erwähnt, in dem Beginn eines geschichtlichen Stadiums, in dem die Juden aus ihren Erwerbsstellungen depoſſedirt werden. Die ungeheuren, teils heimatlosen, teils bodenständigen Proletanermassen solcher erwerbslos gemachten Juden reden eine beredte Sprache. Gleichwohl nennt man den Juden „Paraſiten“ . . . ! Die Sache steht aber so, dass der Jude durch Einführung von Handel und Industne die Wohlfahrt fast aller mittel- europäischen Länder begründet hat; dass er aber, wenn ein- mal der Wohlstand ins Land gezogen ist, dem Einheimischen Platz machen und für ſich wieder neue Erwerbsmöglich- keiten ſuchen muss, — das klaſſische Beispiel der furcht- baren und ewigen, dabei für das eigene Volkswhohl effektloſen Sisyphusarbeit. * * * In vollem Gegenſatz zu der immerhin noch günstigeren Lage der Juden im Westen steht das krasse Elend der Juden im Onent und in Osteuropa, wo der „Expropnierungs- und Depoſſedierungsprozeß“ noch einige Phaſen weiter, fast bis zu ſeinem verzweiflungsvollen Ende fortgeschntten ist. Die Verzweiflung in Russland, das Elend in Galizien, die Verfolgung in Rumänien führten zu einer kolossalen jüdischen Wanderung nach England, Canada, Australien, Südafnka, Argentinien, Palästina, beſonders aber nach den Vereinigten Staaten, die ihresgleichen nicht findet. Vom 1. Juli 1906 bis 30. Juni 1907 wanderten nur aus Russland und bloss nach den Vereinigten Staaten 114 934 Juden! Jetzt aber werden ſogar in Amenka zahlreiche Mass- regeln zur Einschränkung der Einwanderung getroffen, und 52
