And under such circumstances, the immense material of talent, accumulated through the unprecedented selective breeding of millennia, offers the possibility of simply maximal future achievements for the civilized world.
In the present, of course, all these possibilities exist only hypothetically. For a process of dissolution is underway, as relentless and terrible as can be.
And that is the Jewish question in a completely different sense than it is usually conceived, namely the Jewish question for the Jews themselves, the anxious question of their fate, of the final lot of this Ahasuerus among the peoples, which after millennia of proudest development and toughest resistance now presents the sad picture of a national body partly in a state of decomposition, partly perishing in all misery.
To this Jewish people, which already existed before world history began, which flourished in antiquity, defied the dark Middle Ages, which as the only one among the peoples projects from the grayest prehistory into our days – to it all culture and all human development has brought only one thing: that it has alienated its best sons from it and, through political and economic anti-Semitism, is slowly but surely pulling the ground out from under the feet of the great masses.
The future of the Jewish people is seriously threatened by economic impoverishment in the East, the baptism movement and mixed marriages in the West, accompanied by the constant decline of the population figures there.
In the present, a considerable swelling of the baptism figures is apparent, verifiable wherever statistics on leaving Judaism are kept. It can be observed that the more advanced and educated the Jews of a country are, or more correctly

Und das durch die beispiellose Zuchtwahl von Jahr- tausenden angehäufte, ungeheure Begabungsmatenal bietet unter solchen Umständen die Möglichkeit einfach maximaler zukünftiger Leistungen für die Kulturwelt. In der Gegenwart bestehen freilich alle diese Möglich- keiten nur hypothetisch. Denn ein Auflösungspro- zess ist im Gange, wie er unerbittlicher und furcht- barer nicht sein kann. Und das ist die Judenfrage in einem ganz anderen Sinn, als sie gewöhnlich gefasst wird, nämlich die Judenfrage für die Juden selbst, die bange Frage nach ihrem Schicksal, nach dem endlichen Los dieses Ahasvers unter den Völkem, das nach Jahrtausenden stolzester Entwicklung und zähesten Widerstandes jetzt das traunge Bild eines teils in Zersetzung begnffenen, teils in allem Elend verkommenden Volkskörpers darbietet. Diesem Judenvolk, das schon da war, ehe die Welt- geschichte begann, das im Altertum geblüht, dem finsteren Mittelalter getrotzt hat, das als das einzige unter den Völkem aus der grauesten Vorzeit hineinragt in unsere Tage – ihm hat alle Kultur und alle menschliche Entwick- lung nur eins gebracht: dass sie ihm seine besten Söhne entfremdet und der grossen Masse durch den politischen und wirthschaftlichen Antisemitismus langſam aber ſicher den Boden unter den Füssen fortzieht. Die Zukunft des jüdischen Volkes ist emstlich bedroht durch die wirthschaftliche Verarmung im Osten, die Taufbewegung und die Mischehen im Westen, noch begleitet von dem ständigen Sinken der Populations- ziffer daselbst. In der Gegenwart zeigt ſich ein erheblicheſ An- schwellen der Taufziffem, konstatierbar überall da, wo eine Statistik über die Auftntte aus dem Judentum geführt wird.
