The Mneme of the Jewish Race.
No scientific question has such a decisive influence on life as the race problem. For it deals with us, with our humanity! It is, after all, racial affiliation that decides our position in the chaos of nations.
Our blood, and the blood of our fathers, and what has moved the foundation of our national soul since primeval times—all the dark drives and all the dormant forces within us—what we are and what we can ever be—that is our race!
Pride and love unite in racial feeling; it gives us direction and stability on the ocean of cosmopolitanism. We no longer stand alone; as a link in an endless chain we feel ourselves, as members of an indestructible blood community.
The natural-scientific side of the race question is indeed the pivot of the whole controversy. The question is posed as follows:
There are evidently and demonstrably different racial characters and talents that are inherited and innate.
Are these fundamental characteristics of the races the same since primeval times and do they remain unchangeable, or are the specific racial characters also subject to the laws of development?

Untermenschlichen Männer, die die Die Mneme der jüdischen Raſſe. Keine wiſſenschaftliche Frage hat einen ſo entscheiden- den Einfluß auf das Leben, wie das Raſſenproblem. Denn dieſes handelt von uns, von unſerm Menschentum! Die Raſſenzugehöngkeit ist es ja, die über unſere Stellung im Völkerchaos entscheidet. Unſer Blut, und das Blut unſerer Väter, und was ſeit Urzeiten den Grund unſerer Volksſeele bewegt hat, — alle die dunkeln Tnebe und alle die ruhenden Kräfte in uns, — was wir ſind und was wir je ſein können — das ist unſere Raſſe! Stolz und Liebe vereinen ſich im Raſſengefühl, Richtung und Halt gibt es uns auf dem Ozean des Koſmo- politismus. Wir stehen nicht mehr allein, als Glied einer endloſen Kette fühlen wir uns, als Angehönge einer unzer- störbaren Blutsgemeinschaft. Die naturwiſſenschaftliche Seite der Raſſenfrage ist wohl der Angelpunkt der ganzen Kontroverſe. Die Frage- stellung lautet folgendermaßen: Es gibt evident und erwieſenermaßen verschiedene Raſſencharaktere und -begabungen, die vererbt und an- geboren ſind. Sind nun dieſe Grundeigenschaften der Raſſen ſeit Urzeiten dieſelben und bleiben ſie unveränderlich, oder unterliegen auch die spezifischen Raſſen- charaktere den Geſetzen der Entwicklung? 32
