vitality and regenerative ability of the Jewish race.
How do matters stand in this respect with the Germanic peoples?
The present-day European population can now only be considered a mixed people.
The characteristics of long-headedness, blondness, blue-eyedness, and tall stature have been attributed to the Germanic peoples, and all outstanding mental and moral qualities have been linked to the presence of these characteristics.
According to official survey statistics, however, there are barely 31.5% blond, blue-eyed people in Germany! The percentage of pure Germanic people becomes even lower when skull shape is also taken into account. The most long-headed tribe in Germany, the Frisians measured by Virchow, contain only 18% true long-heads and almost half are pronounced short-heads. In southern Germany, the round skull has almost completely displaced the long one.
By the way, the center of gravity of German culture lies not at all in blond Pomerania, but in short-headed and brunette Swabia and Franconia.
If one considers not only individual characteristics, but pigmentation and skull shape together, the relationships become very muddled, and they prove that the most diverse substrata and racial mixtures have taken place in Germany.
Where, then, is the pride of German-national science and politics, the purity and unity of the Germanic noble race?
The admiration and astonishment with which the awakening of Germany, the world domination of England, and the successes of America have been regarded in recent decades were the capstone for the thesis of Germanic racial superiority.
It is indeed correct that the bearers of the characteristics that determine the current cultural level are in fact the Germanic peoples. But why precisely the Germanic peoples are in possession of these characteristics, this question is answered in very different ways. 28

Lebenskraft und Regenerationsfähigkeit der jüdischen Raſſe. * * * Wie steht es in dieſer Beziehung mit den Germanen? Die heutige europäische Bevölkerung kommt nur mehr als ein Mischvolk in Betracht. Man hat den Germanen die Merkmale der Langschädlig- keit, Blondheit, Blauäugigkeit und des hohen Wuchſes bei- gelegt, und alle hervorragenden geistigen und moralischen Eigenschaften an das Vorhandenſein dieſer Merkmale ge- knüpft. Nach offiziellen Unterſuchungsstatistiken gibt es aber in Deutschland kaum 31,5% Blond-Blauäugige! Noch gennger wird der Prozentsatz der reinen Germanen, wenn auch die Schädelform berückſichtigt wird. Der langköpfigste Stamm Deutschlands, die von Virchow gemesſenen Fneſen, enthalten nur 18% echte Langköpfe und fast die Hälfte aus- gesprochene Kurzköpfe. In Süddeutschland gar hat der runde Schädel den langen fast ganz verdrängt. Der Schwerpunkt der deutschen Kultur liegt übngens gar nicht im blonden Pommem, ſondem im kurzköpfigen und brünetten Schwaben und Franken. Betrachtet man nicht nur einzelne Merkmale, ſondem Pigmentierung und Schädelform im Zuſammenhang, ſo wer- den die Verhältniſſe ganz verworrene, und ſie beweiſen, dass in Deutschland die mannigfaltigsten Unterschichtungen und Raſſenmischungen stattgefunden haben. Wo ist alſo der Stolz der deutschnationalen Wiſſenschaft und Politik, die Reinheit und Einheit der germanischen Edel- raſſe? Die Bewunderung und das Erstaunen, womit in den letz- ten Jahrzehnten das Erwachen Deutschlands, die Weltherr- schaft Englands und die Erfolge Amenkas betrachtet wurden, waren der Schlussstein für die Theſe von der germanischen Raſſenſupenontät. Richtig ist ja, dass die Träger der gegenwärtige Kulturhöhe bedingenden Eigenschaften tatſächlich die Ger- manen ſind. Warum aber gerade die Germanen im Be- ſitze dieſer Eigenschaften ſind, dieſe Frage wird eben ganz verschieden beantwortet. 28
