mulier formosa superne." To ascend to this height intended for Judaism by the national Jews, it would first have to descend deeply to learn the national slogan; it would first have to forget everything, its Torah, its Prophets, its Psalms, its history, which paint for it a completely different future than its national rehabilitation could offer, a future which is at the same time the future of all humanity.
For true Zionism cannot be separated from the future of humanity. One needs, I will not say the Prophets, but only the prayer book, especially to read the above-mentioned passages from the liturgy of the New Year and Day of Atonement, and one can without difficulty answer the question of whether our future is presented there only as our future, as our national restoration in Palestine with all the requirements of state independence, or whether it is not presented in the closest connection with the moral perfection of All, with the fraternization of all humanity.
So and in no other way was Zionism also understood and cultivated by the greatest minds of our past.
Certainly, one or another was seized by a mighty longing for Palestine, he kissed the holy ground that his foot trod for the first time, many wanted to find their final resting place there — and so even today the reverence for Zion has not vanished from the hearts of the Jews and will not vanish from them.
The settlement of the Holy Land will always be considered a meritorious, pious practice, justified by history, in which the Jews will not be inferior to the other confessions. But never has the call been made by any authorized party to the entirety of the Jews
