11. National Education

A. Self-Education

Self-awareness is the main thing. Our first duty, therefore, is to develop this self-awareness. It follows that from now on, self-awareness must be the foundation and essence of our national education. This is how every healthy nation, every normal nation, is educated.

B. To recognize the forces latent in the unconquerable people

Anyone who knows the giant number of memories of the greatness of the people of Israel and its heroes can feel how many powers are latent in this people, small and unconquered; he is filled with pride and joy at the idea that he is a Jew. It is easier for him to bear the torments of a Jew's existence, for it is easier for a person to suffer for something he loves than for something he hates or almost hates.

C. "Israel" instead of "Freiwild"

We have experienced it ourselves. If we want to teach our children and bring them to a point where their connection to their people will be for them not a burden, but a joy and a pride. To this end we must introduce them to that same beauty which we, their older brothers, so loved. To recognize the crisis of the downtrodden in their youth. We must lift them above our valueless day-to-day lives, above the hunched back of the "Freiwild" [fair game/prey], and show them "Israel"—its royal spirit in all its might, its soaring history in all its glory and splendor. This is the only remedy to heal our sick soul.
