no community on Earth holds together so firmly as this one. From this it follows how absurd it is to want to grant them a share in the government or administration of a state.
Their religion, from the outset fused with their state and one, is by no means the main thing, but rather only the bond that holds them together, the point de ralliement, and the battle cry by which they recognize each other. This is also shown by the fact that even the baptized Jew by no means, like all other apostates, incurs the hatred and disgust of the others, but as a rule does not cease to be their friend and companion, and to regard them as his true countrymen.
Even in the regular and solemn prayer of the Jews, for which ten must be united, if one is missing, a baptized Jew can step in for him, but no other Christian."
"Accordingly, it is an error to regard the Jews merely as a religious sect; but if, in order to encourage this error, Judaism is designated with an expression borrowed from the Christian church as "Jewish Confession," then this is a fundamentally false expression, calculated to mislead, which should not be permitted at all. Rather, "Jewish Nation" is the correct term."

— 59 — Keine Gemeinschaft auf Erden hält ſo fest zuſammen, wie dieſe. Daraus geht hervor, wie abſurd es ist, ihnen einen Antheil an der Regierung oder Verwaltung eines Staates einräumen zu wollen. Ihre Religion, von Hauſe aus mit ihrem Staate verschmolzen und Eins, ist dabei keineswegs die Hauptſache, vielmehr nur das Band, welches ſie zuſammenhält, der point de ralliement, und das Feldgeschrei, daran ſie ſich erkennen. Dies zeigt ſich auch daran, daß ſogar der getaufte Jude keineswegs, wie doch ſonst alle Apostaten, den Haß und Abscheu der Uebngen auf ſich ladet, vielmehr in der Regel nicht aufhört, Freund und Genoffe derſelben zu ſein, und ſie als ſeine wahren Landsleute zu betrachten. Sogar kann bei dem regelmäßigen und feierlichen Gebete der Juden, zu welchem zehn vereint ſein müſſen, wenn Einer mangelt, ein getaufter Jude dafür eintreten, jedoch kein anderer Chnst.“ — „Demnach ist es ein Irrthum, wenn man die Juden blos als Religions-Sekte betrachtet; wenn aber gar, um dieſen Irrthum zu begünstigen, das Judenthum mit einem der chnftlichen Kirche entlehnten Ausdruck bezeichnet wird als „Jüdische Confeſſion“, ſo ist dies ein grundfalscher, auf das Irreleiten berechneter Ausdruck, der gar nicht gestattet ſein ſollte.
