a country where the laws of the Jews apply); if the laws of the peoples are favorable to the Jew, you let your brother win and say to the foreigner: so your own law wills it; if the Jews are neither masters in the country, nor is the country's law favorable to them, then one must plague the foreigners with schemes, until the profit remains with the Jews. (Tractate Baba k. f. 113, 1.)
* He who has made a vow and repents of it can be helped again through repentance, even if he has already made his vow to the God of Israel. He must go to a distinguished rabbi, or if none is there, to three common men from the community, who will release him. Whoever swears an oath and repents of it, so that he changes his mind, or if something occurs which at the time of the oath was not in his mind, he shall do the same. (Schulch. ar. 228.)
