Ueber das Judenvolk selbst sagt der Talmud: Die Israeliten sind vor Gott angenehmer als die Engel. (Tr. Chullin f. 91, 2.) Das israelitische Volk ist das vortrefflichste unter dem menschlichen Geschlecht, gleich wie das Herz das vomehmste unter den Gliedem ist. (Chisak em.) Eine einzige israelitische Seele für sich ist in den Augen Gottes mehr werth, als alle Seelen eines ganzen Volkes. (Schefa tal praet.) Die Welt ist allein der Israeliten wegen geschaffen worden, sie sind die Frucht, die übngen Völker aber ihre Schalen. (Schene luch. habb. f. 145, 3.)
