district, among 48 voters only 13, for the Rahó district among 38 only 7, for the Homonna district among 35 only 8, and for the Bartfeld district among 47 only 3 are listed who were not Jews. In the Detörmező district with 23 voters, in the Sztropko district with 24, and in the Svionik district with 19 voters, there was among them only one Hungarian each; in the Also-Berezczer district, however, among 24 voters, not a single Magyar.
Given the solidarity of interests, which in Jewish circles is recognized as the supreme principle of mutual conduct, it would be difficult for the Hungarian Ruthenian to establish himself as a merchant at home, even if he possessed enough talent to compete with the Jew, against the Jewish numerical superiority. As it is, however, there is nothing at all of a Ruthenian merchant; the Jew has completely driven him out of this branch of trade and monopolized commerce in Upper Hungary.
