prices accordingly. The brokerage nuisance has become so firmly rooted in Jewish trade that the brokers receive their commission even when a deal is concluded without them.
The number of Christian merchants in Western Russia is not large, and the business they conduct is of no significance. The Russian merchants deal either in goods that they have obtained from the fair at Nizhny or from Moscow, or in foreign wines. The entire local trade is exclusively in the hands of the Jews. Without their participation, no deal is made; all markets, fairs, and bazaars are flooded with Jews, who know how to take possession of the buyers with admirable skill. Such a monopolism of the Jews, which keeps them from other occupations, must exert a highly detrimental influence on the prosperity of the country.
The Jews hold in their hands the entire agricultural industry, give it an unnatural development and, by making all their business dependent on themselves, they determine the prices, which are always lower than the real value of the goods. — 127 — Preiſe. Das Mäkler-Unweſen hat ſich im jüdischen Handel ſo fest eingewurzelt, daß die Mäkler ſelbst dann ihre Proviſion erhalten, wenn ein Geschäft ohne ſie abgeschloſſen ist. Die Zahl der chnstlichen Kaufleute in Westrußland ist nicht groß und die Geschäfte, welche ſie machen, ſind von keiner Bedeutung. Die ruſſischen Kaufleute handeln entweder mit Waaren, die ſie von dem Jahrmarkt zu Nischni oder aus Moskau bezogen haben, oder mit ausländischen Weinen. Der ganze lokale Handel befindet ſich außschließlich in den Händen der Juden. Ohne ihre Betheiligung wird kein Geschäft gemacht; alle Märkte, Jahrmärkte und Bazare ſind von Juden überschwemmt, die ſich mit bewunderungswürdiger Geschicklichkeit der Käufer zu bemächtigen wiſſen. Ein ſolcher Monopolismus der Juden, der ſie von anderen Beschäftigungen abhält, muß einen höchst nachtheiligen Einfluß auf den Wohlstand des Landes ausüben. Die Juden halten in ihren Händen die ganze landwirthschaftliche Industne, geben ihr eine naturwidnge Entwicklung und indem ſie alle ihre Geschäfte von ſich abhängig machen, bestimmen ſie die Preiſe, die immer niednger als der reelle Werth der Waare ſind. In Folge deſſen entwickelt ſich die lokale Industne nur ſehr langſam und der für ſeine Arbeit schlecht bezahlte Landmann hat eben nur ſo viel, um
