to take shelter, must be regarded as having failed. — Meanwhile, one saves what can still be saved. Even if a creation did once take place, the Creator is to be banished from the once-created world, to have nothing more to do in it. One denies the repetition of the act of creation in the different geological epochs, and contests in particular that each organic species presupposes an original act of creation; the different species are supposed to be only varieties, not constant species, not to have arisen from a parentless generatio spontanea, but rather to have developed one from the other through climatic influences and the struggle for existence over the course of time, through very gradual transitions which we can no longer control today, without any interruption in procreation having occurred.
Science, which has established the constancy of species beyond all doubt, has also thwarted this appeal to ignorance on the part of the anti-genetic worldview; and though it could not control the procedure of nature through direct observation during the geological epochs of creation, it has nevertheless positively confirmed this procedure in the lowest animal and plant organisms by experiment, and in the higher ones by the discovery of how they still arise today by way of parentless abiogenesis.
To give our readers an impression of the procedure that nature has followed in the creation of the lower organic species, we share here one of the many interesting experiments that French physiologists from the school of Pouchet have recently conducted. — In the C. 218 Schutz zu nehmen, als gescheitert zu betrachten. — Inzwischen rettet man, was eben noch zu retten ist. Hat auch Ein Mal eine Schöpfung stattgefunden, ſo ſoll doch der Schöpfer aus der ein Mal geschaffenen Welt verbannt werden, nichts mehr in ihr zu schaffen haben. Man leugnet die Wiederholung des Schöpfungsaktes in den verschiedenen geologischen Epochen, und bestreitet namentlich, daß jede organische Spezies einen ursprünglichen Schöpfungsakt vorausſetze; die verschiedenen Arten ſollen nur Spielarten, keine constanten Spezies, nicht durch eine eltemloſe generatio spontanea entstanden ſein, ſondem durch klimatische Einfluſſe und den Kampf um die Existenz mit der Länge der Zeit, im Verlaufe ganz allmähliger Uebergänge, die wir heute nicht mehr controlliren können, die Einen aus den Andem ſich entwickelt haben, ohne daß in der Fortpflanzung eine Unterbrechung stattgefunden habe. Die Wiſſenschaft, welche die Beständigkeit der Spezies über allen Zweifel erhoben, hat der antigenetischen Weltanschauung auch dieſen Appell an die Unwiſſenheit vereitelt; und konnte ſie auch nicht durch direkte Beobachtung das Verfahren der Natur während der geologischen Schöpfungsepochen controlliren, ſo hat ſie doch dieſes Verfahren bei den niedngsten Thier- und Pflanzenorganismen durch das Expenment, bei den höhem durch die Entdeckung, wie deren noch heute auf dem Wege der eltemloſen Urzeugung entstehen, in poſitiver Weiſe constatirt. Um unſem Leſem ein Bild von dem Verfahren zu geben, welches die Natur bei der Schöpfung der niedngem organischen Arten befolgt hat, theilen wir hier eins von den vielen intereſſanten Expenmenten mit, welches franzöſische Phyſiologen aus der Schule Pouchet’s kürzlich gemacht haben. — In den C.
