The Last Racial Domination.
"The more a people achieves in its special vocation, the less envy it shows in recognizing the special achievements of other peoples — we recall the writing of the Frenchman, from which we have shared a chapter — the more openly it absorbs from others what it lacks, and what is yet indispensable for modern life — a quality that is particularly to the credit of the German spirit.
The Jewish people must, in everything concerning the political-social rebirth of the peoples and its own resurrection as an independent nation, align itself with France, just as in everything that relates to spiritual life, it must hold to Germany. — Only a stupid reaction, and whatever allows itself to be carried away consciously or unconsciously by its current, to be deafened by its clamor, can misinterpret it, when we sympathize with France in a political-social regard, and yet are rooted with all the fibers of our spiritual life in Germany.

261 **5.** **Die letzte Racenherrschaft.** „Je mehr ein Volk in seinem speziellen Berussſache leistet, desto neidloser erkennt es die speziellen Leistungen andrer Völker an — wir ennnem an die Schnft des Franzosen, aus welcher wir ein Kapitel mitgetheilt haben — desto unbefangener nimmt es von Andem auf, was ihm fehlt, und was doch zum modemen Leben unentbehrlich ist — eine Eigenschaft, welche besonders dem deutschen Geiste zur Ehre gereicht. Das jüdische Volk muß in Allem, was die politisch-soziale Wiedergeburt der Völker und seine eigne Auferstehung als selbstständige Nation betnfft, sich an Frankreich anschließen, wie in Allem, was auf das geistige Leben Bezug hat, zu Deutschland halten. — Nur eine stupide Reaktion, und was sich bewußt oder unbewußt von ihrer Strömung fortreißen, von ihrem Gepolter überträuben läßt, kann es übel deuten, wenn wir in politisch-sozialer Beziehung mit Frankreich sympathisiren, und dennoch mit allen Fasem unsres Geisteslebens in Deutschland wurzeln. § 107.38
