of which only the creative essence of the spirit is capable, while the analyzing intellect by itself is incapable. — Every creation presupposes the eternal Creator; every spiritual creation, an inspiration.
And the religious creations, which reveal the very relationship of the Creator to the world, should they form an exception to this general law — not be direct actions of the Creator?
Only from an intellectual disposition that is anything but creative does it become understandable why today, in contradiction to all experience and science, one denies the creative element in all spheres of life, or at most lets it pass as a supernaturalistic exception to the laws of nature.
The spiritual creations of the social sphere of life are as much a part of the plan of history as the creations of organic species were a part of the plan of nature; and just as the latter did not arise only once, in a single geological epoch, but rather their creation extended through several geological ages, so too do the spiritual creations in world history have their paleontological and modern epochs, which latter, here as there, characterize the age of maturity, the age of fruition, in which development reaches its conclusion.

165 welcher nur das schöpfensche Weſen des Geistes fähig, der analyſirende Verstand für ſich allein unfähig ist. — Jede Schöpfung ſetzt den ewigen Schöpfer, jede geistige Schöpfung eine Inspiration voraus. Und die religiöſen Schöpfungen, die das Verhältniß des Schöpfers zur Welt ſelbst offenbaren, ſollten eine Ausnahme von dieſem allgemeinen Gesez bilden, — keine unmittelbaren Einwirkungen des Schöpfers ſein? Nur aus einer Verstandesnchtung, die nichts weniger als schöpfensch ist, wird es begreiflich, wenn man heute, im Widerspruch mit aller Erfahrung und Wiſſenschaft, das Schöpfensche in allen Lebenssphären leugnet, oder es höchstens als ſupematuralistische Ausnahme vom Naturgeſez gelten läßt. Die geistigen Schöpfungen der ſocialen Lebenssphäre liegen eben ſo gut im Plane der Geschichte, wie die Schöpfungen der organischen Spezies im Plane der Natur lagen; und wie dieſe Leztem nicht nur Ein Mal, in einer einzigen geologischen Epoche, entstanden ſind, ſondem wie ſich ihre Schöpfung durch mehrere geologische Zeitalter hindurch zog. So haben auch die geistigen Schöpfungen in der Weltgeschichte ihre paläontologischen und modemen Epochen, welche leztere hier, wie dort, das Zeitalter der Reiſe, das Fruchtalter charaktenſiren, in welchem die Entwicklung zum Abschluß kommt.
