133 Alterthums eine neue Weltanschauung, deren Keim sich bekanntlich in einem jüdischen Genius offenbarte. — Und als das chnstliche Rom dem Culturleben in Spanien den Todesstoß verseßt hatte, entstand aus den Trümmem desselben am Schlusse des Mittelalters die modeme Weltanschauung wiederum im Kopfe eines Juden: Spinoza gehörte zu den Nachkommen spanischer Juden, die nach Holland ausgewandert waren, um sich den Spürhunden der heiligen Hermandada zu entziehen.
