Is not everything being leveled and prepared, is not the path of culture being paved in the desert by canal works on the Isthmus of Suez, by railways that connect Europe and Asia? — Of course, one is not yet thinking of the restoration of our nationality. But you know the saying: L'homme propose, Dieu dispose; man proposes, God disposes. — Just as one once sought a road to India in the West and found a new world, so will our lost fatherland be rediscovered on the path that is being paved today in the Orient to India and China. — Or do you perhaps still doubt that France will offer a hand to the Jews for the founding of colonies, which could spread their net from Suez to Jerusalem, and from the banks of the Jordan to the coasts of the Mediterranean? — Then just read the work which appeared shortly after the murder scenes in Syria from the famous pamphlet publisher Dentu under the title: The New Oriental Question. The author has hardly acted on the orders of the French government, but certainly in the spirit of the French people, when he calls upon our fellow tribesmen, not for religious reasons, but from purely political and humane motives, to restore their ancient state.
I would like to recommend this work of a not Jewish, but French patriot to our modern Jews, who boast of French humanity, for their consideration, and therefore attach a few pages from it in German translation.

95 Zion gesendet worden, um die wilden Bergbewohner zu nchten? Wird nicht Alles geebnet und vorbereitet, nicht der Weg der Cultur in der Wüste gebahnt durch Canalarbeiten am Isthmus von Suez, durch Eisenbahnen, welche Europa und Asien verbinden? — Freilich denkt man dabei noch nicht an die Wiederherstellung unsrer Nationalität. Aber Sie kennen ja das Spnchwort: L'homme propose, Dieu dispose; der Mensch denkt, Gott lenkt. — Wie man einst im Westen eine Straße nach Indien suchte, und eine neue Welt fand, so wird man auf dem Wege, der heute im Onent nach Indien und China angebahnt wird, unser verlomes Vaterland wiederfinden. — Oder zweifeln Sie etwa noch, daß Frankreich den Juden die Hand bieten werde zur Gründung von Colonieen, welche von Suez bis Jerufalem, und von den Ufem des Jordans bis zu den Küsten des Mittelmeeres ihr Neß ausbreiten könnten? — So lesen Sie nur die Schnft, welche kurz nach den Mordscenen in Synen bei dem berühmten Broschürenverleger Dentu erschienen ist unter dem Titel: **Die neue onentalische Frage**. Der Verfasser hat schwerlich im Auftrage der französischen Regierung, sicher aber im Geiste des französischen Volkes gehandelt, wenn er, nicht etwa aus religiösen Gründen, sondem aus rein politischen und humanen Motiven unsre Stammesgenossen auffordert, ihren alten Staat wieder herzustellen. Ich möchte diese Schnft eines nicht jüdischen, sondem französischen Patnoten unsem modemen Juden, die sich mit französischer Humanität brüsten, zur Beherzigung empfehlen, und füge daher einige Seiten aus derselben in deutscher Uebersetzung bei.
