The Springtime of Peoples began with the French Revolution; the year 1789 was the vernal equinox of the historic peoples. The resurrection of the dead is no longer surprising at a time when Greece and Rome are reawakening, Poland is breathing anew, Hungary is arming for its final struggle, and a simultaneous uprising of all those oppressed races is in preparation—races that, alternately mistreated, abused, and exploited by Asiatic barbarism and European civilization, by stupid fanaticism and refined calculation, now challenge the right to rule asserted by the barbaric and civilized arrogance of the dominant races in the name of a higher law.
Among the peoples believed to be dead, who in the consciousness of their historical mission may assert their rights of nationality, indisputably belongs the Jewish people, who not for nothing have defied the storms of world history for two millennia, and

VI der werden Theil nehmen dürfen an der großen Völker- palingeneſis, an der Auferstehung aus dem todtenähn- lichen Winterschlaf des Mittelalters mit ſeinen böſen Träumen. Der Völkerfrühling hat mit der franzöſischen Re- volution begonnen; das Jahr 1789 war das Früh- lingsäquinonum der Geschichtsvölker. Die Auferstehung der Todten hat nichts Befremdendes mehr zu einer Zeit, in welcher Gnechenland und Rom wieder erwachen, Polen von Neuem aufathmet, Ungam zum letzten Kampfe rüstet, und eine gleichzeitige Erhebung aller jener unterdrückten Racen ſich vorbereitet, die, ab- wechſelnd von aſiatischer Barbarei und europäischer Civilisation, von stupidem Fanatiſmus und raffinirter Berechnung mißhandelt, mißbraucht und ausgeſogen, dem barbanschen und civiliſirten Hochmuthe der herr- schenden Racen im Namen eines höheren Rechts das Herrscherrecht streitig machen.
