Section 1 The current views on the racial characteristics of the Jews
Despite the plausible character of the previous research findings, we are still, since these anthropological discussions represent only one premise in our chain of reasoning, far from the assumption that we have already come close to solving our problem. For, indispensable to our theme of proof is first the answering of a series of preliminary questions, which could be formulated as follows:

Do the races differ not only in their anthropological form, but also in that each individual race possesses a racial psyche that is peculiar to it alone, and forever, thus a specific racial psyche?

Assuming that such specific racial psyches exist, what is the content of the racial psyches of the ethnic groups that interest us for our theme of proof?

Does the racial psyche in general have a decisive influence on the course of history?
We cannot take the answers to these questions from anthropology, which concerns itself only with purely physical measurements. These controversies can only be fought out on the ground of the philosophy of history.

Abschnitt Die gegenwärtigen Ansichten über die Rasseneigen- schaften der Juden Trotz des plausiblen Charakters der bishengen Unter- ſuchungsergebniſſe find wir doch, da dieſe anthropologischen Erörterungen nur eine Prämiſſe in unſerer Schlußkette dar- stellen, weit entfemt von der Annahme, daß wir damit der Er- ledigung unſeres Problems schon nahe gekommen wären. Denn für unſer Beweisthema unerläßlich ist erst die Beantwortung einer Reihe von Vorfragen, die ſich folgenderart formulieren ließen: 1. Unterscheiden ſich die Raſſen nicht nur durch ihre anthropologische Gestaltung, ſondem auch dadurch voneinander, daß jede einzelne Raſſe nur eine ihr allein, und für immer eigentümliche, alſo spezische Raſſenpſyche beſitzt? 2. Welchen Inhalt haben unter der Annahme, daß es ſolche spezifische Raſſenpſychen gibt, die Raſſenpſychen der uns für unſer Beweisthema intereſſierenden Völkergruppen? 3. Kommt der Raſſenpſyche im allgemeinen eine Maß- geblichkeit für den Geschichtsverlauf zu? Die Beantwortung dieſer Fragen können wir nicht der An- thropologie entnehmen, die ſich nur um rein körperliche Maß- bestimmungen kümmert. Dieſe Kontroverſen können nur auf dem Boden der Geschichtsphiloſophie ausgetragen werden. Bezüglich der Juden konnten wir mit aller Sicherheit fest- stellen, daß sie eine Raſſe für ſich darstellen. Es handelt ſich
