78 these unmistakable Jewish porters, as the most genuine Jews, are of such a height and muscular strength that they find the admiration of all sailors who come into contact with them. But the supposition that the physical inferiority of the Jews is in many cases a fable convenue, and that the Jews must originally have been physically quite different, finds a brilliant confirmation in the results of Huxley's measurements on the Samaritans. The Samaritans have, according to all historical and anthropological criteria, purely preserved the type of the ancient Hebrews and are still its representatives today. The general type of the Samaritans is distinctly Jewish, as we have already emphasized earlier. They are scrupulous about the complete purity of their tribe; mixtures with the other peoples of Syria have almost never occurred. These Samaritans are now the tallest people in Syria and have an average height of 173 cm, a maximum height of 184 cm. If, after this digression, we are to return to the relationship of the laws governing physical growth to the Teutonic theory, we can be brief. In Europe, the tallest people are the Norwegians: from here, height decreases the further one advances to the south. Thus, the areas with a purely Germanic population have the greatest body height, and those with a completely non-Germanic population have the lowest.* From this it follows that tall stature in Europe is a characteristic of the Germanic race, and it further seemed the conclusion example of the sphere of influence of the milieu in another direction. They have the artificial milieu of sexual hygiene created by the ritual legislation, the absence of alcoholism, to thank for the fact that their physical regenerative capacity has been preserved, so that today, despite all their misery, they must be described as decadent, but not as degenerate.

78 kann, sind dieſe als echteste Juden unverkennbaren jüdischen Lasträger von einer Höhe und Muſkelkraft, daß ſie die Be- wunderung aller Seeleute finden, die mit ihnen in Berührung kommen. Es findet aber die Vermutung, daß es ſich bezüglich der körperlichen Minderwertigkeit der Juden demnach doch vielfach um eine fable convenue handelt, und daß die Juden ursprünglich körperlich ganz anders bestellt geweſen ſein müs- sen, eine glänzende Bestätigung durch die Ergebniſſe der Mes- ſungen Huxleys an den Samantanem. Die Samantaner haben nach allen histonschen und anthro- pologischen Kntenen den Typus der alten Hebräer rein be- wahrt und ſind noch heute deſſen Repräſentanten. Der allge- meine Typus der Samantaner ist ausgesprochen jüdisch, wie wir früher bereits hervorgehoben. Sie halten peinlich auf voll- kommene Reinheit ihres Stammes; Mischungen mit den anderen Völkem Synens ſind fast nie vorgekommen. Dieſe Samantaner ſind nun die größten Leute in Synen und haben eine Durchschnittslänge von 173 cm, eine Maximal- länge von 184 cm. Wenn wir nach dieſer Abschweifung wieder auf die Be- ziehungen der das Körperwachstum beherrschenden Geſetze auf die Germanentheone zurückkommen ſollen, ſo können wir uns dabei kurz faſſen. In Europa ſind die größten Menschen die Norweger: von hier aus nimmt die Größe um ſo mehr ab, je weiter man nach Süden vordnngt. Es haben alſo die Gebiete mit rein germani- scher Bevölkerung die größte, diejenigen mit gänzlich ungerma- nischer Bevölkerung die genngste Körperlänge aufzuweiſen.* Daraus folgt, daß hohe Statur in Europa ein Charaktenstikum der germanischen Raſſe ist, und es schien weiters der Schluß Exempel für die Einflußsphäre des Milieus nach anderer Richtung hin. Dem durch die Ritualgeſetzgebung geschaffenen künstlichen Milieu der Sexualhygiene, dem Fehlen des Alkoholismus haben ſie es zu danken, daß ihre körperliche Regenerationsfähigkeit ihnen erhalten geblieben ist daß ſie heute trotz allen Elends wohl als dekadent, nicht aber als degene- nert bezeichnet werden müſſen. * Ein zweites europäisches Größen-Zentrum haben wir übngens noch im westlichen Teile der Balkanhalbinsel.
