What irreconcilably separates them is the conception of personal honor, which the Teuton lays as the foundation of his life and which the Semite completely lacks.
Because of this contrast, the Punic Wars became struggles of annihilation, and neither the Roman, nor the Arab, nor the Ottoman Empire was ever able to overcome it with the most extreme means of force.
And Germans and Jews represent the two extreme poles. The Germans are the most idealistic branch of the Indo-Germans and the Jews are considered, even within the Semitic group of predators, among their own relatives as the most ignoble offspring of the family, just as they already lack in their physiognomy the nobility of the Arab.
Among the Germans, the moral sense was so alive that in a thousand-year history they became the leading cultural people of the world, without the need for a written law. Bei den Deutschen war das sittliche Gefühl so lebendig, daß sie in tausendjähnger Geschichte das leitende Kulturvolk der Welt wurden, ohne das Bedürfniß eines geschnebenen Rechts. Bei den Juden fehlte es in dem Maße, daß Moses nichts Edligeres zu thun hatte, als seine Horde in ein System von speciellen Verboten einzu zwängen gegen Scheußlichkeiten, welche andem Völkem unbekannt sind. Die Juden rühmen sich des Alters dieser ihrer Gesetzgebung, aber man kann einem Volke nichts Schlimmeres nachsagen, als daß es schon bei seiner Geburt habe in die Fessel des Verbrechers geschlagen werden müssen.
