terminated; by a hatred of all non-Jews, commanded and approved by religious precept; by a doctrine of religion and morals which allows unjust latitude towards non-Jews in the choice of means for selfish ends, while the Israelite is forbidden to take even moderate interest from his co-religionist for loans; by a never-tiring spirit of lurking and haggling; by a mania for swindling and usury; by the corruption of the people through cunning and overreaching, through the undertaking and favoring of immoral and unlawful commerce; by a reluctance for hard work that does not satisfy the lust for profit, or is not necessitated by it; by an unwillingness and unfitness for the personal defense of the fatherland, not merely because of their inherent cowardice, but also because they do not recognize it as theirs; by a poverty of noble-mindedness and genuine intellectual culture.
Reason proves, and experience confirms it, that a caste spirit of any kind, the political as well as the religious, and most of all the politico-religious, is incompatible with the welfare of the state and community. Now, however, as stated above, Judaism to this very hour unchangeably establishes, in political, religious and physical respects, a caste spirit, the like of which, in essence and scope, especially in the sharp, inexorable separation of its adherents from every other class of people, in the entire

- 49 - gerottet werden müssen; an einem durch Glaubensvorschnft gebotenen und gebilligten Haß gegen alle Nichtjuden; an einer Religions- und Sittenlehre, welche gegen Nichtjuden der Wahl der Mittel für eigennützige Zwecke ungerechten Spielraum läßt, während dem Israeliten verboten ist, von seinem Glaubensgenossen für Darlehen auch nur mäßige Zinsen zu nehmen; an nie ermüdendem Lauer- und Schachergeist; an Prellsucht und Wuchenn; an Volksverderbung durch Ueberlistung und Uebervortheilung, durch Untemehmung und Begünstigung unsittlichen und rechtswidngen Verkehrs; an Scheu vor strenger, die Gewinsucht nicht befnedigender, oder durch sie nicht abgenöthigter Arbeit; an Unwilligkeit und Untauglichkeit zu persönlicher Vertheidigung des Vaterlandes, nicht bloß wegen der ihnen eigenen Feigheit, sondem auch weil sie dasselbe nicht für das ihnge erkennen; an Armuth an Seelenadel und echter Geistesbildung. Die Vemunft beweiset, und die Erfahrung bestätigt es, daß Kastengeist jeder Art, der politische wie der religiöse, am meisten der politisch-religiöse, unerträglich sei mit Staats- und Gemeindewohl. Nun begründet aber, wie oben angeführt, das Judenthum bis diese Stunde unwandelbar, in politischer, religiöser und physischer Hinsicht, einen Kastengeist, dessen Gleichen, im Wesen und Umfang, insbesondere in scharfer, unerbittlicher Absonderung seiner Anhänger von jeder anderen Menschenklasse, in dem ganzen Antisemiten-Katechismus. 4
