The participation of Jews in German military service is extraordinarily low. They are not admitted to the officer corps, nor are they suited for it, either physically or morally. Only a small number of Jewish mixed-breeds and descendants of baptized Jews have managed to smuggle themselves into this rank. Among military doctors they are unfortunately more numerously represented; likewise among reserve officers.
For regular service, too, they are mostly unfit or seek to evade it through all sorts of loopholes. In 1885, the Prussian army (excluding military officials and officers) numbered 245,360 (Protestants and Catholics) and only 920 German Jews.
Since in Prussia the Jewish population makes up ¹/₇₄ of the total population, there should actually be 3328 Jews among the 246,280 draftees, but as the number above shows, there is barely a quarter as many. The Jew is thus 4 times more unfit for military service than the German.

-- 272 -- Auch die geistige Entartung und die sittliche Verlodderung in unserem Volke muß rasch um sich greifen, wenn unsere Jugend in solchem Maße dem schlechten Einflusse des Verkehrs mit Juden preisgegeben ist — Israel im Heere. — Die Betheiligung der Juden am deutschen HeeresDienst ist außerordentlich genng. In den OffizierStand werden sie nicht zugelassen, eignen sich auch für denselben weder physisch noch moralisch. Nur eine gennge Zahl jüdischer Mischlinge und Nachkommen getaufter Juden haben sich in diesen Stand einzuschmuggeln gewußt. Unter den MilitärAerzten sind sie leider zahlreicher vertreten; ebenso unter den Reserve-Offizieren. Auch für den Gemeinen-Dienst sind sie meist untauglich oder suchen demselben auf allerlei Auswegen zu entgehen. Im Jahre 1885 zählte das preußische Heer (außer Militär-Beamten und Offizieren) 245 360 (Evangelische und Katholiken) und nur 920 Deutsche Juden. Da in Preußen die jüdische Bevölkerung ¹/₇₄ der Gesammt-Bevölkerung ausmacht, so müßten unter den 246 280 Ausgehobenen eigentlich 3328 Juden sein, es sind aber, wie obige Zahl zeigt, fast nur den vierten Theil soviel.
