Postscript.
At the last moment before the publication of these pages, after the letters and notes had already left the press, I was, on the occasion of an outburst by Fichte against the Jews reported in the Kreuzzeitung, made aware of another defamatory tract recommended by the same, which was published in Berlin last year under the title "The Jews and the German State" and is said to have already gone through five editions.
Not in order to refute it, but rather to establish the sympathies for its content and the "taste" of its large readership, I could have wished to have been made aware of this Christian-Germanic product somewhat sooner, had not a glance into it immediately shown me that the author, condemned to anonymity, is a "speculative" atheist and revolutionary who has defected to the Kreuzzeitung party, with whom the German public would indignantly reject any solidarity.

# Nachschnft. Im leßten Augenblicke vor der Veröffentlichung dieser Blätter, nachdem Bnefe und Noten bereits die Presse verlassen haben, werde ich bei Gelegenheit eines in der Kreuzzeitung mitgetheilten Ausfalls Fichte’s gegen die Juden auf eine von derselben empfohlene andre Schmähschnft aufmerksam gemacht, welche im vongen Jahre unter dem Titel „Die Juden und der deutsche Staat“ in Berlin erschienen ist und bereits fünf Auflagen erlebt haben soll. Nicht etwa um dieselbe zu widerlegen, wohl aber um die Sympathien für den Inhalt derselben und den „Geschmack“ ihres großen Lesepublikums zu constatiren, hätte ich wünschen können, etwas früher von diesem chnstlich germanischen Produkte in Kenntniß geseßt worden zu sein, wenn nicht ein Blick in daſſelbe mir sofort zeigte, daß der zur Anonymität verurtheilte Autor ein zur Kreuzzeitungspartei übergelaufener „spekulativer“ Atheist und Revolutionär ist, mit welchem das deutsche Publikum jede Solidantät entrüstet zurück weisen würde.
