Particularly striking is the increase of the Jewish population in the imperial capital, Berlin. In Berlin, the increase of the Jews is as follows: 1780 | 1820 | 1840 | 1860 | 1870 | 1880 | 1890 3400 | 3500 | 6500 | 16,000 | 30,000 | 53,900 | 75,000 Jewry has therefore more than twenty-two-folded there in 110 years. The situation is similar in other large cities, such as Breslau, Hamburg, Frankfurt a. M., Leipzig, etc.
It is noteworthy here to what an outstanding degree the Jews take possession of businesses and urban real estate. Far beyond their proportional numbers, they are the owners of the businesses on the busiest streets and the proprietors of the most valuable properties. In Berlin, already in the year 1878, about 46 percent of all houses are said to have belonged to Jewish owners — not counting the mortgages

In Berlin stellt sich die Zunahme der Juden wie folgt: 1780 | 1820 | 1840 | 1860 | 1870 | 1880 | 1890 3400 | 3500 | 6500 | 16,000 | 30,000 | 53,900 | 75,000 Das Judenthum hat sich dort also seit 110 Jahren mehr als verzweiundzwanzigfacht. Aehnlich stellt sich das Verhältniß in anderen Großstädten, wie Breslau, Hamburg, Frankfurt a. M., Leipzig u. s. w. Dabei ist bemerkenswerth, in wie hervorragendem Maße sich die Juden der Geschäfte und des städtischen Grundbesitzes bemächtigen. Weit über ihre Verhältnißzahl hinaus sind sie Inhaber der Geschäfte in den verkehrsreichsten Straßen und Eigenthümer der werthvollsten Grundstücke.
