I only became acquainted with Napoleon's speeches and decrees in the most recent times, but found to my great joy that the man, who truly had eyes in his head, already in 1806 thought exactly as every decent German thinks in 1887, radically anti-Semitic in the sense of a two-sided humanity.

“It takes a heart as hard as a crocodile's skin not to feel pity for the poor, sucked-dry Germans and — what is the same thing — not to hate the Jews, not to hate and despise those who — out of “humanity!” — speak up for these Jews, or who are too cowardly to crush this vermin.
One does not negotiate with trichinae and bacilli, nor are trichinae and bacilli “educated”; they are rendered harmless as quickly and as thoroughly as possible.”

Ich habe Napoleons Reden und Erlaſſe erst in der allerletzten Zeit kennen gelemt, zu meiner großen Freude aber gefunden, daß der Mann, der wahrlich Augen im Kopfe hatte, schon 1806 genau ſo gedacht hat, wie jeder anständige Deutsche 1887 denkt, im Sinne einer doppelseitigen Humanität radikal antiſemitisch. (Der Verfaſſer bnngt hier die Reden und Erlaſſe Napoleon’s I., die ſich auf die Juden beziehen, erwähnt den Bencht des Ober-Regierungs-Rathes Thiel über den empörenden „Wucher auf dem Lande“ und fährt fort:) „Es gehört ein Herz von der Härte der Krokodilhaut dazu, um mit den armen, ausgeſogenen Deutschen nicht Mitleid zu empfinden und — was daſſelbe ist — um die Juden nicht zu haſſen, um diejenigen nicht zu haſſen und zu verachten, die — aus „Humanität!“ — dieſen Juden das Wort reden, oder die zu feige ſind, dies Ungeziefer zu zertreten.
